Ripple faces 2 billion XRP supply question ahead of November unlock

Ripple faces 2 billion XRP supply question ahead of November unlock

Three days ahead of the November 1 escrow unlock, Ripple is facing a 2 billion XRP supply question, as the 1 billion tokens previously released from escrow on October 1 has never left the company’s wallets.

On October 1, four escrow contracts released 1 billion XRP into two Ripple wallets that XRPSCAN labelled “Ripple 10” and “Ripple 11,” with 500 million each.

However, an XRP Ledger (XRPL) check on October 29 shows both wallets are still holding the same amounts, with neither having sent a single payment since the unlock.

In line with the regular monthly unlock schedule, each wallet has another 500 million XRP escrow maturing on Sunday, November 1, just as the company wraps up its Swell 2026 conference in New York.

Is Ripple’s XRP escrow schedule disrupted?

Following the November releases, Ripple will gain access to a further 1 billion tokens, continuing the monthly schedule established in late 2017.

As the data suggests, after unlocking and not relocking 3 billion XRP from escrow so far in 2026, the company has consistently re-escrowed about 700 million XRP, or roughly 70%, of each monthly unlock.

That leaves Ripple with about 300 million XRP each month for operations, on-demand liquidity, and partner distributions. The October supply, however, stands out against that pattern, still being unmoved.

At the current XRP price of $1.29, the next billion set to release on Sunday has a notional value of $1.29 billion.

XRP pressure mounts; Ripple escrow still untouched

The question arrives as XRP has lost 14.5% over the past month, and selling pressure is not easing. For example, CryptoQuant data shows XRP exchange reserves climbing from 2.6 billion to 2.69 billion between October 12 and October 29.

U.S. spot XRP exchange-traded funds (ETF) also saw outflows of $3.61 million this week, per SoSoValue. Meanwhile, though, whales keep adding, as Santiment figures show wallets holding at least 10 million XRP now control 46.87 billion tokens, about 68.5% of supply.

One reason the escrow numbers have not garnered much attention this week could be the aforementioned Swell 2026 conference Ripple opened on Tuesday, October 27, a day after winning final OCC approval for Ripple National Trust Bank.

The company also launched 24/7 Returns through Ripple Treasury, a product letting eligible companies earn a return on RLUSD while banks are closed. However, as neither announcement involves XRP directly, speculation continues to mount.
